Will's LAX tournament was the first weekend in August. They played well and won the first game. The second game was, well. . .intense. It was the championship game so everything was on the line and the boys played better than they had all season. We were ahead most of the game, but, as is often the case in this sport, the opposition came back in the fourth quarter to tie it up. Overtime was excruciating. Sudden death. Three goals on each side were called back on technicalities. We went back and forth, celebrating a win, then mourning a loss, each time the goal was whistled off. Finally, the other team managed to break away, toss it in and score in a flawless and foul-less score. Really a heart-breaking loss. But thrilling just the same.
Will was pretty bummed out about it, but he managed to score the title of "Defensive Player" for the season, and a $10 gift card to Big 5. That, paired with a cool 2nd place medal, was enough to save the day. Whew!
