Backpacking 2019

Well, it was an unusually busy summer for the kids and it was difficult to carve out a weekend where we would have full attendance for our big backpacking trip. It came down to the very last weekend of the summer. The weekend right before school started! It was originally going to be two nights, but we were feeling the end of summer crunch and decided to just pop up for one night. A decision we consistently regretted and won't likely do again. But we did have the best time, and we managed to score our campsite by sending the fast boys ahead of the group towards the end.

Packing a good sized big boy pack.

Dad, laying out the rules. Don't whine. Have fun.

Last glimpse of the lake.

Will trying very hard to use his filter straw. I'd say they have some work to do to perfect that little tool.

LOVE HIM.

Such a view! I was over the moon that we got this spot!

We had a lot of time to hang out!

The kids trying grandpa's cigars. Sara said it tasted like fireworks.

Grandpa reading Patrick McManus until it got very dark.

My morning view :)

How a Marine packs his backpack. Neat and tidy.

Almost home!

Some out of order pics I stole from others. You cannot beat this kid's bed head. Their whole tent tipped over in the night cause they kept rolling down the hill :)

Aaaannnd. This is the starting photo, haha.

And a good one of these two buds. What a great time.
