XC....So fun!!

Practice before the sun comes up...we had some beautiful mornings!
Clarkston meet.  Big.Huge.Hill.

They have a new law in Washington this year, the 6th graders could not compete with the junior high kids, which was kind of a bummer.  But that meant they missed the BIG.Huge.Hill.  So they were fine with it.  :)

Headed down...

Kayte got 3rd overall!

Lots of time to hang with friends....And wrap-up with Costco pizza, of course.

Fishing with Joe.

I could sit and grow old, righhhht.....
Here.
Love.

Homework is better with a buddy.

No cavities!

Hallelujah!!

A little apple-picking, cider-making.

Bishop's Orchard.  Every fall.  We love to make cider, but everyone disappears when it is time to actually drink it.  That's crazy!!  It's so good!!

Ahh, fall.  You gotta love it!

Will may or may not be allergic to apple-picking.  This is the second year in a row he ended up in the car feeling a little bit woozy!  Maybe we just play too hard.

Home for the blood moon.  I cannot explain how inadequate this photo is.  It was beautiful.

Martha Stewart, that's me.

So, a long long time ago, I managed to score this little piece of furniture off facebook for the great grand total of $0.  It is solid and very heavy, and the hinges are a bit wonky. But potential potential potential!  I'd heard of this paint that requires no skill, no prep work, and guarantees mind-boggling results with just one coat.  This sounded like just the perfect fit!  And you can find it in Colfax.  Turns out Colfax is like, 40 whole minutes away!!  This crafty stuff requires loads of commitment and stick-to-it-iveness!  So anyway, Joe and I cannot quite nail down how long this piece of furniture was tying up the garage, somewhere between 6 months and a year. But now it was September, and he was giving me to the end of the month to get it done.  I drove to Colfax one sunny day, determined to wrap this up in a single try.  I get distracted quite easily and couldn't possibly imagine focusing on one project longer than that!
The lady was so sweet and gave me some swift instructions on this special paint.  She wanted me to come to a class to learn how it was done, but that was before I introduced myself as "not Martha".  I rushed home and got started.
Two truths and a lie: they were right about no prep work.  At least, I didn't do any, besides wiping off the 6 months to a year of garage dust.  They were right about no skill.  I have none whatsoever.  But they were wrong about the one-coat promise.  I don't know who told me that, but two coats in and it still looked a little....preschool-level.  But by then I'd run out of time!!  And nearly paint!  I decided I'd save the paint for the front, since I determined that was close enough for me!
We got some help loading it into the house, and thank heavens for that!  While they were lifting and tilting, I found 20-30 little white spider egg sacks underneath!!!!  Ack, the horrors of what that little gift would do to me if we hadn't found them in time!
Anyway.  Thrilled by my super-cheap, super-easy little project and what it's done to my house!

Who knew??!

Will's Play!

Will's class play this year was the Taming of the Shrew.  Highly entertaining.  And I love it that Will's converse made the cut.  Converse are always appropriate.

The Fair!

So...we kinda missed the fair this year. I mean really truly!  No foot long corndog, not even an elephant ear!  But we did have time to cruise through in a quick hour to see the exhibits and the animals, including Madison's!  Ben, as aforementioned, has been planning this for several months, and he was more than satisfied with his big blue ribbon.  Sara also entered some legos, and Kayte and Sara did some cupcakes together.  So we did get in on some participation...but I miss my yearly corndog!!

Farewell to Summer...

Fire season always makes us want to burn a little something.  Maybe it is that smoky beginning-of-fall air, or maybe the beginning of crisp evenings.  September is a busy busy time of year for us, but we carved out an hour or so to tailgate on the lawn.
All the essentials: orange, processed foods, haha.

The buckets there to catch any sparks....it really was high fire time.

Just the best.  I'm loving these years!

A weekend with Joe.

We bought a golf weekend at the auction a year and a half ago.  Now golf isn't really our, well, our wheelhouse, necessarily. But I'll take a hotel pretty much anywhere. Make it a suite by the lake, with dinner at Beverly's, and yeah sure, I'll try my hand at a little golf, too. I remember this golf course being built and it's legendary status as the only golf course with a floating green. Very intriguing.  We caught the wooden boat and were ferried over for breakfast at the course.  We met up with our caddie, got our cart, and hit a few balls out into the water.  The Crapuchettes met us, and thank goodness they did.  Not only for the comic relief, haha, but also to save us from golfing with real experts. (No offense, Andrew. Haha.)
What a beautiful (chilly!) fall day, and we had so.much.fun.

FUN!!

Little perks.

Approaching the formidable "island."

Barely made it on the island.  But I made it!!! Woohoo!

Deer on the course.
What a fun unforgettable day!  I love a day off with my Joe!

A day with Ben.

The big kids went to Silverwood, cause they were going to miss the cousin trip this year. So Ben got to spend the day with just Joe and I. What a treat!!

Panda Express!  I think he wanted to love it, but he didn't just quite. We told him he could choose the movie, all by himself! A cartoon, of course.  It's good to be king.
